Everybody was excited about the leak we recently saw of analleged upcoming Google Nexus smartphone(possibly theNexus3 to welcome Ice Cream Sandwich) but unfortunately we have to disappoint you and say we think it's fake! Take a look at the image above; it's a zoomed in snapshot of the original image that was leaked. You can see how the shades the glass casts on the actual display end at one point, both left and right. The portion below the natural shaded screen is also much crisper sharper. It's the point where we think the screen ended and Photoshop started. Most probably there was a part someone wanted to cover by enlarging the screen and "selling" the smartphone as an all-screen one. Techhog's findings -- the site that actually ran the initial image -- seems to support our beliefs. They managed to dig up a picture of allegedly the same smartphone as used in the purported Nexus 3 image and it appears to have, just like any regular smartphone, buttons at the bottom (and capacitive ones at that). We'll also tell you we think it's anHTC IncredibleS -- or Incredible 2 -- judging by the speaker grill on the top as well as the camera placement on the top-far-right.

Over the last few days, we've seenlots of pics and video of upcoming BlackBerry handsets leak out, giving us an early view at some of the most anticipated additions to RIM's lineup. The trend continues through today, with theBlackBerry Bold9790 posing for a series of its own pictures. It's not clear right now just how the 9790 will fit in with the rest of RIM's upcoming smartphones. According to the source that provided the phone's images, the 9790 performs significantly better than current models of its lineage, like the Bold 9780. With theupcoming Bold 9900 and 9930as thenew high-end touchscreen Bolds, though, where will the 9790 show up? The Bold 9790 will supposedly have a touchscreen display, support NFC transmissions, have 8GB of internal storage, and ship runningBlackBerry OS7. This is assuming the phone is actually meant for retail release and we're not just looking at some in-house testing model. Considering this is the first we've heard of it, that's a distinct possibility, but we'll wait to see if any new information on 9790 arrives before writing it off completely.
If smartphone hardware can run Android, aLinux-based operating system, why can't it run a full-blown Linux distro? In fact, you can run Ubuntu on many Android-powered phones. To getUbuntuto run on a smartphone, some have started the OS side-by-side with Android, others have used emulators or virtualized hardware. On occasion a developer steps up and creates a bootable, functional Ubuntu image. If you've got anHTCDesire HD, you can count yourself as one of the lucky ones! A recently released ROM not only lets you boot Ubuntu natively, it also has a working touchscreen (which works as a touchpad), two-finger scrolling, Wi-Fi, draggable windows, ADB, and even allows for incoming calls and SMS. The latest version still has some issues with sound, keys, USB host (for mouse and keyboard support), andFirefox. According to the developer, the instructions for getting up and running are particularly simple: - Downloadubuntu4dhd.zip - Downloadeasy to use.zip - Extract thelinuxfolder fromubuntu4dhd.ziponto the root of your sdcard - Extract theeasy to use folderto your Windows PC - Boot your DHD into thebootloaderand connect your DHD to your PC - Double clickStart here.bat - Type "fastboot boot boot.img" or "fastboot boot boot-usbhost.img" To get back your Android OS, simply reboot your DHD! If anyone out there with a rooted Desire HD wants to give this a try, please let us know about your experiences in the comments! Source:XDA
