Microsoft Not Giving Up On Focus Update, Won't Rest Until Done

Microsoft has officially resumed the updating process for the Samsung Omnia smartphones back in May but unfortunately Samsung Focus owners weren't that lucky. Some of them have still not received the long-waited pop-up informing them of an available update.

In his weekly post over at Windows Phone Blog, Microsoft's Eric Hautala, GM, Customer Experience Engineering, after informing about more updates rolling out, is reassuring Samsung Focus owners that the company will not rest until the update is delivered to everyone left behind. "I want to assure SamsungFocus owners who haven’t received an update notification that there are many people across several companies continuing to work on the solution for your phones. We want to make sure you have a quality experience with the update. That is taking time, but we’re not resting until it’s done."

Samsung Galaxy S I9000 Android 2.3.4 Leaked

Samsung's Galaxy S i9000, the original model that launched so many carrier-branded variants, got an official build of Android 2.3.3 courtesy of a leak at the end of March. Now the next decimal revision is ready for the smartphone, with Android 2.3.4 leaking out.

The details in the ROM show it was compiled quite recently, a week ago on June 3. In order to get it onto your phone you'll need to use Samsung's Odin tool to flash your Galaxy S with the ROM. For now, the only available version of this build still has the bootloader attached. Don't get tempted to try your luck using it on any of the other Galaxy S-series smartphones; this code is strictly for the i9000 only.

If you're unfamiliar with using Odin to flash your phone, details are available in the Galaxy S Gingerbread firmware thread over at the XDA-Developers forums. The process isn't exactly complicated, but novices may want to ask a buddy for guidance if they're feeling apprehensive about making these kinds of modifications to their phone; that, or just wait for Samsung to release the update itself.

Samsung Infuse 4G Gets Gingerbread In Time For Canadian Release

Samsung's Infuse 4G landed last month on AT&T, impressing us with its large 4.5-inch Super AMOLEDPlus display and its slender, lightweight construction. While Samsung did a nice job setting up the smartphone with its Touch Wiz UI, it's still only running Android 2.2. Gingerbread may be coming soon to the Infuse, though, as Samsung Canada's website is teasing its coming launch of the smartphone with the news that it will arrive running Android 2.3.

The Infuse is set to show up in the Great White North sometime this summer. Chances are good that, if it doesn't even arrive well in advance, a Gingerbread update for the existing population of Infuses will be release around the same time. As of now, we haven't heard anything from Samsung that could help us narrow down either of those windows past the general setting of "summer", but we could end up learning more as we get closer to the smartphone's Canadian release.

To see how the current Infuse 4G is performing with Froyo behind the scenes, check out our extensive hardware and software review.
