Comex Talks About Apple Internship; Says Goodbye To Jailbreaking

It's confirmed everyone, Hell freezes over. Nicholas Allegra, better known as Comex in our Jailbreakunderworld recently tweeted that he joined Apple in an internship, and now he's come on record in a sort of Q&A interview on AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit. The 19-year-old founder of the most famous way to Jailbreak your device is now part of the system that he helped crack, and sadly that does mean bad news for those of us that depended on the service.

I know why you chose to read this from the start, so I'll save you the need to dive through the responses. Comex is no longer going to work on iOS exploits sadly. He also went on record to state that he received over $55,000 in donations due to his Jailbreak efforts, and that he plans to use for his college education. The full interview goes as follows:

Why an intern position though? It seems like you could carry a regular position at apple. (AstroZombie138)

Comex: I don’t know if I’d want to do that- I’ve never had a job before and I don’t know what it’s like- and I intend to go back to college soon.

Have you made any money from the scene? (jamesvdm)

Comex: I’ve made a good amount of money through donations, which is mostly being used to help pay for college. JailbreakMe 2.0 was like $40,000; 3.0 was $15,000 (not quite sure why it decreased).

Are you optimistic about the future of the iOS platform? What features are you looking forward to next? (iconoclaus)

Comex: My personal opinion: it will probably continue to beat the pants off its competitors in performance for a while yet, and Apple’s “take your time but do it right” policy on features will probably continue to make it a pleasure to use. But I’m impatient: other platforms (WebOS) have a lot of fun stuff with no real equivalent in iOS.

After your internship with Apple and after iOS 5 is officially released, will you continue to support the jailbreak community by providing exploits? (nishnasty)

Comex: No. (But I’ll want to jailbreak my phone, so I hope someone finds them :p)

So there you have it. Truly Apple has shown that the easiest way to beat their way out of getting what they want is to hire those that are mostly a threat to them.

Verizon Giving Early Upgrades Ahead Of Droid Bionic & iPhone 5

Verizon subscribers rejoice as many are currently having their phone upgrade schedules moved up. This is sort of the same move that AT&T pulled last year with the iPhone 4 launch, so it's kind of interesting to wonder why it's happening in this timeframe. In some cases, the upgrades have even been moved to serve those that wouldn't be eligible for an upgrade until May 2012, so this is hot in every way.

Our biggest bet is that is Verizon's way of retaining Android customers as Motorola is planning to release their Droid Bionic next week according to most of the leaks around. We also know that an HTC Vigor and a Droid Prime are also on the list ofnext releases. Now even more interesting is the fact that the iPhone 5 is also around the corner and rumored to support Verizon on launch date. Verizon was able to activate as many as 2.3 Million iPhones last Spring after launch, which was twice as many 4g Android devices in that same period.

What ever Verizon is planning, make sure you check your upgrade eligibility status and make sure you hold-off for which ever phone you're planning to get this fall. Verizon is out to tempt you sooner than necessary, so might as well spend that benefit on the device "this year's" dreams.

iPhone N94 Prototype Parts Leaked; Is This the Next iPhone 4S

With so many rumors moving around about an iPhone 5, an iPhone 4S or even the possibility of an iPhone 4G, it's becoming harder and harder to asses what Apple's next move will be. Images have just surfaced of the front assembly of an N94iPhone Prototype, and if our memory serves us right, this looks just like an iPhone 4's front facing assembly. I guess the only real way to tell this apart from any current generation iPhone is the code name. Just to give you an idea, the Verizon iPhone4 was codename N92 back in the day. Probably the only difference you'll notice is the little dotted whole that sits beside the ambient light sensor above the earpiece.

This is most likely the cheaper version of the iPhone 4 that many of us are expecting, which will drop storage availability to 8GB instead from the current 16GB and 32GB configurations. According to the images, this screen belongs to an EVT1 device (Engineering Verification Test) that's dated back to March 3rd 2011. Compared to the white back panelimages we discovered recently, this front assembly was built three months before them. Sadly, the last time the sources checked the status of the N94 prototype back in July, it had still not reached DVT (Design Verification Test) stage, so it's really hard to know if these will make the final design or not.

Now don't forget there's also an N97 Prototype being mentioned all around. This is what the Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year as a tiny device, and which we're not sure if they mean slim or short by the word tiny. Whether Apple is working on bringing an iPhone 5 that's slimmer, or just evolving the iPhone 4's design for an additional year and truly bringing an iPhone Nano to the market is still hard to confirm.
