If you were a little bit disappointed (or annoyed) by previous reports according to which the Next Galaxy will be packing a dual-core processor, this official wording from Samsung might make your day. Long story short: the New Galaxy will pack a 1.4GHz Exynos 4 quad-core SoC.

Samsung announced the quad-core application processor which is already in production and "is scheduled to be adopted first into Samsung's next Galaxy smartphone that will officially be announced in May". It is built on the High-k Metal Gate (HKMG) low-power process technology and it's exceeding 1.4GHz based on the ARM CORTEX A9 quad-core.

The advantages? "Two times the processing capability over the 45nm process based Exynos 4 Dual while consuming 20-percent less power". Simply put: one core is busy when you're watching video while the rest of the cores are taking care of background applications, sync, browsing, etc. As far as multimedia is concerned, the SoC features full HD 30 frame per second video hardware codec engine.

"Samsung's next Galaxy device, which will be officially announced soon, offers uncompromised performance and ground breaking multi-tasking features, thanks to Exynos 4 Quad's powerful performance and efficient energy management technology," said Hankil Yoon, Senior Vice President of ProductStrategy Team, Samsung's Mobile Communications Business.
