Skype On Windows Phone Might Not Be An App But OS Integration

If you've used Windows Phone Mango or seen thedemo videos you know just how deep the Facebook integration is. You can post an update, upload a picture, check out albums and even chat without the need of the dedicated application. Turns out Windows Phone might not need a Skypeapplication either to do stuff.

Neil Stevens, Skype's Vice President and General Manager of Products and Marketing, hinted towards tight Skype integration with Windows Phone, unlike other platforms like Android and iOS, where there's a dedicated application for it. "People don't want to start an app when they're making a call", said Stevens, so we'll probably be surprised to see that Windows Phone will offer Skype integration the same way it currently handles Facebook

Facebook Messenger App Contains Code For Video Chat

We've already speculated on the possibilty of Facebook bringing video chat to mobile phones -- as we know about the Skype integration in Facebook -- and it appears that the social network does indeed plan to bring such a feature to phones (or at least they're playing with the idea).

Yesterday's Facebook Messenger app for both iOS and Android turns out to contain code that hints towards video integration. The video chat bit would work on both iOS and Android as well as with Facebook's (upcoming) Skype-powered video chat solution. The code, as contained in yesterday's initial release of the app, is not final and thus not working but we definitely expect a refresh of the software on both platforms once Facebook flips the switch on video chat.

More Nokia Windows Phones Shown In Video; Leak or Fake?

We all know and expect the Nokia SeaRay Windows Phone to hit the market already and bring us some Finnish hardware goodness along with the sweet juice of Mango but what else doesNokia have up in its sleeve? We know the SeaRay is only one of Nokia's prototypes and plans forWindows Phone and today we can see some more.

Here's the story: the video below is an alleged "Nokia-Microsoft" video MyNokiaBlog received from a tipster using an ovi.com e-mail address but claiming to be from Microsoft. It appears to be a mix of two videos: one showing off some (so far) unknown Nokia Windows Phones and one being the Microsoft Office Labs Productivity Future Vision. It has been captured while being played back on Windows Media Player.

Now let's get to the juicy part: We've got two phones about which we know absolutely nothing. The one below seems to be the phone which was "leaked" just after the Nokia-Microsoft announcement but the others seem to be so far unseen. The other one appears to be coming in different colors (maybe inter-changeable battery covers) but interestingly, it appears to have the same button layout as the SeaRay: all the buttons on the left (volume up, down, power and camera).

You can also notice the ovi Tile on the screen along with the Nokia Clock Tile which was subject to many fan-related mock-ups and concepts and what appears to be an ovi Maps Tile. While these phones definitely look good (different), they might be faked (or they might just be real and leaked). What do you think?

Samsung GT-i8350 Windows Phone Gets Bluetooth Certification

Back in July we found out that Samsung may go down the same road as LG by getting a refresh to an already existent Windows Phone out on the market. While LG's model is the E906, possible refresh to the Optimus 7, Samsung's GT-i8350 could be a follow-up to the Omnia 7.

A certain Samsung GT-i8350, most probably the one we already know about, has just received its Bluetooth certification. The supported version is 2.1 with EDR and given the Omnia 7 was a European device (U.S. got the Focus), we tend to believe that the GT-i8350, if indeed a refresh, will also be limited to the European market.

Another iPhone 5 'Leak' Surfaces With Larger Screen

After we all agreed that the latest iPhone 5 "leak"was as fake as it gets, here comes another image claiming to be Apple's next generation smartphone coming October (fingers crossed for September).

The image which seems to combine a camera shot with a render shows off an alleged edge-to-edge screen on a phone which still has the round HomeButton, but with a relatively thinner form factor. The overall aspect of the phone is more squared, especially the edges, with chromed bezel. We can't see the back of the device unfortunately so you'll have to drop your comments whether it's fake or not based on the front and the screen of the phone. As far as we can tell, the picture is fake judging by the stretched display of the settings which doesn't maintain the aspect ratio and thus text is distorted (too tall). Your turn!
