China Telecom Talks To Apple About CDMA iPhone

After recently we heard that Apple and China Mobile allegedly agreed on LTE-TDD-enabled iPhone, here comes another bit related to Cupertino and China as China Telecom Corp Ltd. reportedly contacted Apple regarding their CDMA variant of the iPhone.

China Telecom is the smallest of the three wireless carriers in China and is, according to Chairman Wang Xiaochu, interested in bringing the CDMA flavor of the Apple smartphone to its line-up. China Unicom has 886 million mobile phone users and is currently the exclusive carrier, ending this year, to have the iPhone in its stores. Earlier this week we heard that China Mobile is allegedly also in talks with Apple about the iPhone though, LTE being the case, it might be about the next iPhone coming after the 4S.

"We're not denying that we're in touch with iPhone (Apple), but I cannot comment on the progress," said Chairman Wang Xiaochu. With its 103.10 million mobile phone users as of April, China Telecom would consider Hong Kong as a first priority for issuing overseas bonds.

Regardless of the carrier (and the number of carriers), the iPhone's presence in China, the world's largest mobile market, is a great opportunity for Apple to dramatically increase its sales and given the popularity of the iPhone in China, there's no doubt more and more carriers want to offer it.
