At the beginning of May, Google started offering movie rentals through the Android Market, with prices in the $2 - $4 range. According to a Google Android Market Support post, "you'll receive this "Error 49" message if you attempt to play a movie on a rooted device. Rooted devices are currently unsupported due to requirements related to copyright protection".
This won't bother you of course if you don't care about movie rentals; you can keep your root access! If, on the other hand, you love watching rented movies on the go, you have two options: unroot, back to stock or wait and hope Google will give up on this policy -- which we have a hunch they never will. There's also a third option which is rather likely: the community at work who might figure out a way around this.
