Motorola XT531 is a new low-cost Android smartphone

A slim and budget friendly Gingerbread smartphone to hit global markets in the Fall.

There’s no doubt that Motorola is not living its best moment: with the exception of the USA, where carriers prefer it over foreign manufacturers, smartphone sales are not at levels the company hoped and even the Atrix is not impressing customers. That’s probably why the former telephone giant is trying to play the card of low-cost phones, and after the XT316 Fire launches the Motorola XT531, which is basically the same phone without physical keyboard.

Featuring a 3.5-inch HVGA display, a 800MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM, a 5Mpx camera with flash, a front-facing VGA camera and the new Moto Switch UI, which recently replaced the MotoBlur UI, the device will be available in the Fall branded as Motorola Fire XT in Europe and Asia and as Motorola Spice XT in Latin America. No word on the final price, which should better be low enough if the company wants to compete with similar terminals by Huawei and ZTE.
