SE Xperia Android 2.3.4 Updates Entering Global Availability

Sony Ericsson may be putting the Xperia X10 out to pasture when it comes to providing softwareupdates, but luckily there are plenty of other Xperia models that continue to live on. The company has been talking about its plans for bringing Android 2.3.4 to the lineup for months, and we first started to hear about models beginning to receive the software back in September. Sony Ericsson has now announced that it's moving past a limited, regional distribution, and is beginning a global push to bring that latest software to the Xperia Arc, Play, Neo, Mini, Mini Pro, Pro, Ray, Active, Neo V, Arc S and the Live with Walkman.

We've already talked about some of the features included in these upgrades when looking at the earlier, limited release, and there's a lot more present than just Android 2.3.4. Probably the most prominent part is the new version of Facebook inside Xperia, tightening-up integration with the social network.

One technologically impressive addition is the new 3D sweep panorama camera mode. This lets you generate 3D images using your phone's standard 2D camera. It works just like taking a 2D panoramic picture, where you wave your phone in front of the subject, but takes advantage of that motion to get pictures of the subject from multiple angles, combining them for a 3D effect. Of course, you'll need to hook your phone up to a 3D TV if you ever want to actually see the fruits of your labor in full 3D. The Xperia Play, sadly, is the one outlier not receiving the 3D panorama feature.

Sony Ericsson hasn't provided any estimates on who will be getting what updates, when, suffice to say that operators around the globe now have access to the releases. If you have one of the support handsets, be on the lookout for your update to arrive soon.
