Nokia Windows Phones To Sport Dual-Core ST-Ericsson Chips?

Current Windows Phones on the market -- regardless if we're talking HTC, LG, Samsung or Dell -- all sport 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 chips thanks to Microsoft's strict hardware requirements. According to the new Chassis specifications, next-wave Windows Phones could also utilize MSM7x30 and MSM8x55 chips but according to Carlo Bozotti, Chief Executive of STMicroelectronics, some Nokia Windows Phones will sport ST-Ericsson chips.

ST-Ericsson is a joint venture between STMicroelectronics and Ericsson and the company has a great relationship with Nokia, even after the Espoo-Redmond partnership. According to Bozotti, ST-Ericsson will be one of the two chip suppliers for Windows Phone-powered smartphones -- Qualcomm is still in the game -- and the NovaThor U8500 will reportedly be the first ST-Ericsson chipset to power a Nokia Windows Phone.

Nokia, the company that is allegedly planning on releasing no less than twelve Windows Phones throughout 2012, will utilize future versions of the U8500 for its next Windows Phones, said Bozotti. That leaves us with current U8500 chip on the rumored 2011 Nokia Windows Phone.
