We've recently seen the Nokia N9 running MeeGo in a video teaser -- MeeGo's Facebook page indirectly confirmed by running some screenshots -- and even more recently, a new version of MeeGo has been released. MeeGo 1.2 is now live and "provides a solid baseline for device vendors and developers to start creating software for various device categories on Intel Atom and ARMv7 architectures".
The new version features enhanced Telephony and Connectivity capabilities, among which GSM, GPRS, and HSPA+ network support, SIM Application Toolkit, expanded Bluetooth profiles, expanded VPN andwireless authentication methods, USB, WiFi, and Bluetooth data tethering capability as well as enhanced multimedia support with RTSP streaming progressive download.
Trying to maintain the six month period between releases, MeeGo version 1.3 is scheduled to be released in October, 2011. The main partners and members of the MeeGo Handset Working Group are so far China Mobile, Intel, LG, ZTE, Huawei and Panasonic and, quite frankly, we can't wait to see a MeeGo-powered smartphone made by LG soon!
