Verizon's Samsung Galaxy S 2 "Function" May Launch This July

Following its international launch, US smartphone users are anxiously awaiting domestic carriers to start offering Samsung's powerhouse Galaxy S 2. We've learned of some possible names the US carriers might give their S2s, and have heard rumors that Sprint would launch its, the Galaxy S 2 Within, this July. Now there are unconfirmed reports that Verizon is looking at the same launch window, with plans to bring its GS2 to market next month.

We believe Verizon's model will be called the Galaxy S 2 Function. Computerworld recently tried contacting the major US cell providers to see if it couldn't get some sort of comment from them on each of their plans for the GS2. The only one to respond was Verizon, which revealed over email that a specific date for its GS2 launch hasn't been set, but the carrier expects that it will be sometime in July.

Occasionally we've seen bad information come out through this kind of contact with a carrier, either due to plans changing, misunderstandings, or just simple mistakes. That said, we're not immediately doubtful of this information, since it would make sense for it to occur near the time of Sprint's Within launch; it's just that we'll feel a lot better once we see a press release or even a leaked internal document.

Update: Verizon denies saying the phone will come out in July.
