T-Mobile Announces BlackBerry Curve 9360: End-Of-Month Release

An earlier leaked roadmap had RIM's BlackBerry Curve 9360 for T-Mobile already going up for sale by now. Clearly, that September 14 launch date was a bit of an optimistic estimation. Before there was time for another rumor to arrive, T-Mobile's taken the guesswork out of things by making the phone official, announcing plans to kick-off sales on September 28.

We had previously heard about pricing for the Curve 9360 on T-Mobile prepaid, and estimated at the time that the on-contract subsidized price for the phone might fall in the $50-$150 region. It turns out the smartphone will end up on the more affordable side of that spectrum, with plans to sell the 9360 for just about $80 with a two-year commitment and rebates. If you want to get a head-start on things, T-Mobile business customers can get their pre-orders for the phone beginning today. Later down the road, there are plans to introduce a merlot-colored edition of the phone on October 12.

The Curve 9360 is definitely the weakling of the new pack of BlackBerrys, and the lack of a touchscreen will turn off some users, but the familiar design and the pricing could win it some fans. Then again, with the Bold 9900 already going on sale for just $100, it could take more than that to turn users on to the 9360.
