The Motorola Atrix 4G update that rolled out recently, version 4.1.83, wasn't all about fixing issues, like the data connection speed of HSUPA. It reportedly messed up some banking applications while preventing others from working properly.
The update included, among various fixes, some new SSL certificates which were meant to provide secure connections to servers. "We have found that the addition of the newer version of certificates affects all open sourced versions of Android in the same way that Atrix 4G was affected", they say. Among applications reportedly affecter are Bank of America, American Express, Discover, and Chase while Wells Fargo andCitibank seem to be working just fine.
Until a workaround or a fix is issued, the Motorola Software Team is advising you to use your mobile browser. "A warning may be shown about certificates when accessing some banking sites. Select "Continue", once confirmed that the certificate is from the corresponding financial institution - to proceed to the website."
