Tomorrow's going to be a big day for Windows Phone 7 software, no doubt, with plenty of Mango-related news in store for us at Microsoft's New York City event. Rumor has is it, though, that it could be just as big a day for hardware, with the possibility that Microsoft will reveal nine new smartphones running its mobile operating system. As we wait to see just how factual that rumor ends up, something curious has happened to Samsung's Focus that has us thinking that maybe we really are about to see a flood of new WP7 handsets.
Some AT&T retail partners are suddenly no longer carrying the Focus. Costco lists it as "out of stock", while the phone seems gone entirely from Target's website. Stock shortages happen - we've seen manufacturers have to tweak phone phone designs after release due to problems securing sufficient numbers of needed components - but the timing here is cause for a bit of suspicion.
The new Windows Phone hardware rumors suggest Samsung could bring a whopping four of the nine anticipated devices to the table tomorrow. Presumably, the release of those phones, even if the rumor pans out, would still be several months off, especially if they're to arrive with Mango. Would Samsung really stop producing the Focus before it had more WP7 models out in stores to compensate? It could be nothing - just a supply chain hiccup - but it just makes us all the more curious to see what's in store for WP7 tomorrow.
