We just saw Motorola reach out to Droid X owners in what we could only assume was part of a test-run for the smartphone's Gingerbread update. We've known that a Droid X update has been in the works for some time, along with other Androids from Motorola's Droid lineup. Today representatives from the company confirmed (and re-confirmed) some of these upcoming releases, including one we hadn't heard about before.
Last fall, Motorola launched the Droid Pro and the Droid 2 Global. We've been hearing plenty about Gingerbread development for the Droid X and Droid 2, but haven't received any news about the potential for the upgrade to arrive on the Droid Pro. Certainly, we've been expecting it to, as it's a relatively recent model with more than capable hardware. Now it looks confirmed, with a Motorola employee posting that Gingerbread is on the way for the Droid X, Droid Pro, Droid 2, and the Droid 2 Global.
As for when you might expect these, "the Droid X update is currently scheduled to be released before the end of the second quarter of this year or sooner." That makes sense, especially if late-stage end-user testing is about to take place. The other Droids will follow shortly thereafter, and "are currently scheduled to be released before the end of the third quarter or sooner... dependant on Verizon approving the OTA (over the air) updates."
