Apple reportedly filed for a new requirement with ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). The SIM form factor proposed is even smaller than the microSIM and "they have done that <...> with the sponsorship of some major mobile operators, Orange being one of them", said Anne Bouverot, Orange's head of mobile services.
Orange is happy about the idea as are other operators and our guess is that users should be glad too since the new, smaller, SIM form-factor will bring even thinner smartphones to the market, as soon as next year. Apple's next year's smartphone -- the one after the iPhone 4S -- might require you do more than cut a SIM card to the microSIM form factor.
