T-Mobile Confirms Wi-Fi Calling No Longer Uses Minutes

T-Mobile users with phones that support UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) have been able to transition from making voice calls over the cellular network to a perhaps-more-reliable nearby WiFi network when within range. While that's great, especially if you have trouble getting a cellular signal indoors, using UMA still ate into your plans voice minutes, even without the load on T-Mobile's network; no fair, right? It was rumored earlier this month, and now T-Mobile has confirmed a change to this policy, letting Android smartphones with the right plan options make all the voice calls over WiFi you like, without using up any minutes.

In order to get this working, you'll need one of T-Mobile's Androids with the Smart Wi-Fi app installed. You'll also need to get your service via an Even More, Even More Plus, or 4G Do More plan. If you hit these two targets, T-Mobile will let you add "Free Wi-Fi Calling" as a plan option, and you'll be good to go. Enjoy your free voice calls!
