Motorola Recruiting Testers For Cliq 2 Update

Motorola's Cliq 2 is a decent mid-range Android messaging phone on T-Mobile. We generally liked the phone's design, and found its MotoBlur implementation made it a snap to use for social networking, but where underwhelmed with the Cliq 2's performance. With a 1GHz CPU, it seemed like it should have been a little more spry than we found it to be. Motorola's announced an upcoming update for the Cliq 2 that may go some way to addressing that issue, and it wants your help testing it; the company's asked for 200 volunteers to give the smartphone's 1.1.30 update a spin before it's released wide.

Like it did with the Bravo Froyo update, Motorola is asking interested smartphone owners to submit responses to a brief survey if they're interested in testing out the update. The release notes for the software indicate that, with this update, the phone's UI should be getting a speed boost, especially when it comes to widget performance. Battery life should also be improved, and Motorola says users can expect fewer random app crashes. There are also some security settings, like the ability to encrypt stored data or to use a VPN for secure network connections. Add in some new apps, and while it's not Gingerbread, it looks like a pretty decent update for Cliq 2 owners.

If you want it now, go ahead and fill out the survey; otherwise, if this test goes anything like the Bravo's, the update's public release is probably not too far off.
