Will You Be Able to Buy Motorola's Droid X2 In Stores Tomorrow?

When Verizon announced Motorola Droid X² availability this morning, it stated that online sales of theAndroid smartphone would start tomorrow, May 19, while you'd need to wait until May 26 to get the phone in one of Verizon's retail stores. Now there's a rumor going around that the retail delay won't necessarily be happening, and some stores will be starting sales to coincide with online availability tomorrow.

One leaked email, apparently distributed to Verizon retail employees, mentions shipments of the Droid X² arriving early, with a prohibition against selling any before Thursday. While it doesn't explicitly authorize anything, the implication is pretty clear that sales will be permitted starting tomorrow.

More evidence in support of this theory comes from a screenshot out of Costco's computers, announcing that the Droid X² could be available in its mobile phone kiosks for sales as early as this Friday, May 20. The retailer doesn't seem confident that stocks will be available everywhere (hence the "as early as" language), but again there's a tacit authorization to go ahead and sell the smartphone if the inventory's there.

If you didn't feel like waiting to pick up a Droid X², try your luck at Verizon and its retail partners starting tomorrow; it looks like you'll have a decent chance that at least some location will be selling the smartphone early.
